“This and Another” is a mixed-media project exploring time and my surroundings. This and Another (Gun) is created by visiting locations where gun-related incidents happen in a year. In the United States we have been experiencing an enormous number of gun-related incidents every day. We reached a point decades ago that we cannot keep up with all the shootings in this country anymore: “this incident” unavoidably becomes “another incident” in the statistics, leaving no significant impact on us.
Does our mind use desensitization to shield ourselves from being overly stressed and anxious? Or it is the result of those sentiments? I have no definite answers; the project is an attempt of self-observation when I travelled through the United States, New Zealand and China.
