Trained in the making of the fine arts & art education at the Herron School of Art & Design. I take my inspiration from Nature, Art History, Poetry, & Literature. I embrace all that I find valuable in each of them; leading to an eclectic approach to creative discovery in my ‘making’. Making art, for me; is all about the looking, the searching, and the attempting to find the elusive.
My passion is using tactile handmade methods to unearth meaning from the layers of ordinary day-to-day life. To bring up something worth-while from the sub-surface of daily living, and to set it out into the light; is to transcend the mundane. My best art-making and word-play occurs in the quiet of morning light, when the day is revealed to just knowing only the beginning. Allowing the creation to form & finding that muse & giving into time and space to ‘just wing it’.
I hope my creations touch others as genuine & heartfelt. – R.Lee
